Village and coast

Mazunte is part of Santa María Tonameca. The beach and Mexican Turtle Center are useful landmarks; Punta Cometa and Mermejita offer walking routes into the coastal landscape. Pair the center with time in the village and its local shops.

Make your visit count

Start with turtle conservation, visit the Cosméticos Mazunte cooperative, and leave time for the coast. Oaxaca tourism has announced the jazz festival for November 13–15, 2026.

Before heading out

For Punta Cometa, bring water, grippy footwear and a light for the return. Check sea conditions before entering the water. Municipal paperwork belongs with Tonameca town hall, rather than a separate Mazunte municipality.
